Henderson's Bush (a.k.a. Henderson's Baby Lima, Henderson's Dwarf, and Earliest Bush Lima) (Phaseolus lunatus) 60-75 days. Shell or Dry Bean One of the most famous lima beans, introduced in 1888 by Peter Henderson & Co. Henderson's Bush Heirloom Lima Bean is an excellent baby lima, smooth and with delicate, buttery flavor. Found on a Virginia roadside by a soldier returning from the Civil War, it was grown by a local market gardener and passed along to T. W. Woods & Sons, who grew it for two years and then sold the whole stock to Peter Henderson & Company in 1887. The plants are dwarf bush and can be grown like any other bush bean, setting forth 2½-3½" long pods, bearing 3-4 small green seeds each that dry to a lovely creamy-white.
