Hutterite Soup (Phaseolus vulgaris) 70 days. Dry Bean A wonderful soup bean, requiring no cream or butter, with it's dense creamy texture and naturally oily residue. The Hutterite Soup Heirloom Bean was brought to America in 1874 by the Hutterite Christians, followers of Jakob Hutter. The group brought with them the seeds they knew they could grow and that would prove sustaining. These cream-tan colored beans are easy to grow, and store well. Can replace pintos or black-eyed peas in recipes, but are at their finest in soup, cooking down rapidly into a delicious creamy white soup. Soak overnight, and they cook down in 20 minutes! An easy recipe for Hutterite Bean Soup: 2 pounds dried Hutterite Soup Beans, 8 cups chicken stock, 1 large onion, diced finely. Cook down same as any bean soup. Delicious!
