Pencil Pod Black Wax Bean (a.k.a. Butterbean Wax and Eastern Black Wax) - Non-GMO, Non-Hybrid, Untreated Heirloom and Open-Pollinated Bean Seeds Pencil Pod Black (a.k.a. Butterbean Wax and Eastern Black Wax) (Phaseolus vulgaris)
50-65 days.       Introduced in 1900, this favorite with gardeners for generations was developed from a cross between the Improved Black Wax Bean and the Black Eyed Wax Bean. The Pencil Pod Black Wax Bean has a bush habit, with dwarf bushes reaching 14-16". Beans are a lovely yellow, slightly curved, stringless, crisp and easy to snap, growing to approximately 5½-7" in length, with black bean seeds. An all-purpose old-time favorite with delicious flavor! Ideal for bean salads, cooking, canning, freezing and table use. Germinates well in cold soils and is also very resistant to heat. Resistant to rust and mosaic.

43-58 days.       Believed to have been handed down from the Cherokee Indians, and introduced to the garden market in 1846. This Wax bean won the All-American Selections Award in 1848, and is still a great favorite today. Cherokee Wax beans are light yellow in color, stringless and delicious. Very hardy, producing well even in adverse weather conditions. Bush plants produce high yields of straight to slightly curved 6-7" oval pods. Excellent fresh, canned, or frozen. Disease Resistance: BCMV, NY15, and rust.

60 days.       The Dragons Tongue is a famous Dutch heirloom wax bean. This bean grows to 7 ½" long and is cream colored with purple stripes, although the purple stripes disappear after blanching. The pods are wide, crisp and stringless. This wax bush bean can be eaten at several stages. When the greenish pods turn creamy yellow with dull purple stripes, the pods are ready to eat fresh as snap beans. As they mature, the stripes turn red, signaling the shell bean stage. The plants are compact and set high yields.
