(a.k.a. Half Long, Danvers Red Core #126) (Daucus carota) 65-87 days.       Organic Danvers carrots are conical shaped, with well-defined shoulders, tapering to a point at the tip. They do well in clay or heavy soils, with high yields. The Organic Danvers 126 Carrot is heat tolerant. Grows 7-8″ long, with large, sturdy tops that aid in harvesting. This variety was developed by the Eastern States Farmers Exchange, West Springfield, Massachusetts from other strains of Danvers which were known for heat resistance. The Organic Danvers 126 has dark bright-orange flesh, which is smooth, sweet, and tender. Stores well. A popular Organic choice for home and market.

Planting Instructions for Organic Danvers Carrot Seeds

Organic Heirloom / Open Pollinated Carrots grow best in well prepared, deeply worked, loose soil. Direct seed Organic Carrots in full sun or part shade (in hot climates), from early spring-summer , ¼ – ½” deep, approx. 4 seeds per inch, in rows 12-16″ apart. Germination occurs in 6-21 days at temperatures of 50-75° F. Thin the plants to 1-3″ apart. To prevent green shoulders you can hill 1-2″ of soil around plants when 7-10 leaves have formed. A good mulch of organic material (such as grass clippings) is very beneficial once carrots are established. Harvest when Organic Heirloom / Open Pollinated carrots have brightened in color, when color has deepened.

St. Clare Heirloom Seeds are proud signers of The Safe Seed Pledge: “Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations. For the benefit of all farmers, gardeners and consumers who want an alternative, We pledge that we do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds or plants. The mechanical transfer of genetic material outside of natural reproductive methods and between genera, families or kingdoms, poses great biological risks as well as economic, political, and cultural threats. We feel that genetically engineered varieties have been insufficiently tested prior to public release. More research and testing is necessary to further assess the potential risks of genetically engineered seeds. Further, we wish to support agricultural progress that leads to healthier soils, genetically diverse agricultural ecosystems and ultimately healthy people and communities.” ×
