(Phaseolus vulgaris) 85-95 days.    Dry or Shell Bean    Pinto Bush Bean a popular bean in the Southwest and Mexican cooking. Very flavorful and smells great when cooking. Pinto Bush Bean plants are half-runner type, reaching about 20″, producing lots of 4½-6½” pods borne near the crown of the plants. Broad pods contain 5-6 broad, oval, light buff seeds speckled with brown. Pinto Bush Beans are high in protein, fiber, B vitamins, calcium, phosphorus, potassium and iron. Great flavor and great nutrition all in this popular dry bean! Pinto Bush Beans are popular for refried beans, soups, chili, baked beans, or bean dip, and can be substituted for kidney beans or red beans in recipes.

Planting Instructions for Pinto Bush Bean Seeds

Sow Heirloom / Open Pollinated Pinto Bush beans 1-2″ deep, 2-6″ apart, in rows 18-36″ apart, in full sun after danger of frost. Soaking bean seeds in water 1-2 hours before planting speeds germination. Germination occurs in 4-16 days in soil 60-85°F. Provide support for heirloom pole bean varieties. For heirloom snap beans, harvest when beans are 3-6″ long. For bush dry beans, leave pods on plants until pods are dry, brown, and crisp, and beans are hard and rattle in pod, if more drying is needed when danger of frost has arrived, pick pods or pull entire plant and hang upside down to dry further.
