(a.k.a. Half Long, Danvers Red Core #126) (Daucus carota) 65-87 days.       Danvers 126 carrots are conical shaped, with well-defined shoulders, tapering to a point at the tip. They do well in clay or heavy soils, with high yields. The Danvers 126 Carrot is heat tolerant. Grows 7-8″ long, with large, sturdy tops that aid in harvesting. This variety was developed by the Eastern States Farmers Exchange, West Springfield, Massachusetts from other strains of Danvers which were known for heat resistance. The Danvers 126 has dark bright-orange flesh, which is smooth, sweet, and tender. Stores well. A popular choice for home and market.

Planting Instructions for Danvers 126 Carrot Seeds

Danvers 126 Carrots grow best in well prepared, deeply worked, loose soil. Direct seed Carrots in full sun or part shade (in hot climates), from early spring-summer , ¼ – ½” deep, approx. 4 seeds per inch, in rows 12-16″ apart. Germination occurs in 6-21 days at temperatures of 50-75° F. Thin the plants to 1-3″ apart. To prevent green shoulders you can hill 1-2″ of soil around plants when 7-10 leaves have formed. A good mulch of organic material (such as grass clippings) is very beneficial once carrots are established. Harvest when Danvers 126 carrots have brightened in color, when color has deepened.
