Description
50 Seeds per pack
(a.k.a. New Sugar Snap, Cascadia) (Pisum sativum) 53-72 days. The original sugar snap pea, and 1979 winner of the All-American Selections Award! The Sugar Snap Edible Pod Pea produces heavy yields of flavorful 2½-3½” pods, on tall 6′ vines. Crisp, sweet pods are considered by many to be the best flavored of all the edible pod peas. Pods are delicious fresh, and great in salads, can be snapped just like green beans. Tastes great steamed. Freezes well, does not tolerate the heat of canning well. Can be left on the vines until mature for excellent quality shelling peas. Does develop strings at maturity, so they will need to be stripped. Vines require support. Frost resistant. Tolerant to Pea Wilt.
Planting Instructions for Sugar Snap Pea Seeds
Sugar Snap peas are a cool weather crop, that like well drained soil and plenty of organic matter to assist with moisture retention. Direct sow Heirloom / Open Pollinated Peas as soon as soil can be worked in the spring. Plant Sugar Snap pea seeds in full sun, 1-1½” deep, 1 – 2″ apart, in rows 18-24″ apart. Pea seeds should germinate in 6-14 days at 45-75°F. No need to thin plants. Provide a trellis or other support for climbing varieties. Heirloom / Open Pollinated Bush Pea varieties usually do fine with a short trellis or planting in a block so Pea plants support each other. Harvest Heirloom / Open Pollinated Shelling Peas when pods are full and plump and peas are tender; Heirloom / Open Pollinated Snap Peas when the pods start filling out but are not yet fully mature; and Heirloom / Open Pollinated Snow Peas when pods are approx. 3″ long and still flat, before seeds start to fill out.

Our last packet of seed went quickly. We had to come back for a bulk quantity since they did so well, even in our poor desert soil.
