The Toma Verde Tomatillo is adapted to grow well in a wide range of climates, growing quickly and giving good yields of large green tomatillos. They do best in same growing conditions as tomatoes, but can handle more drought and heat. The fruits are surrounded by a papery husk that turns from green to brown as they ripen and splits open when they are ready to harvest. Tomatillos are the key ingredient in fresh and cooked Latin American green sauces, particularly hot chili sauces. Makes an excellent addition to any Mexican dish or salad.

Planting Instructions for Toma Verde Tomatillo Seeds

Toma Verde Tomatillo may be direct seeded in long season climates, otherwise it is recommended to start indoors 4-6 weeks. before last frost date. When direct seeding Toma Verde tomatillos, plant ¼” deep. Plant in full sun or with afternoon shade in hot climates. Thin to 12-24″ apart. Heirloom / Open Pollinated Tomatillos like an average water supply. Toma Verde plants are self supporting, but do sprawl, so caging or trellising is recommended in small gardens. Fruits are mature when husks are light tan, and fruits split the husk.
