(Lycopersicon lycopersicum) 80-90 days       An old-time heirloom favorite introduced in the 1880s. The Brandywine Pink Heirloom Tomato has won countless taste contests with it’s outstanding rich flavor, and creamy aftertaste, sought after by gardeners and connoisseurs year after year. Large, strong, indeterminate plants bear nice yields, with large fruits growing to 1 lb. or more. Brandywine Pink heirloom tomatoes are large, red-pink, flattened and irregular in shape. The large potato-like leafs help protect the tomatoes from sun-scald. This is a great slicing tomato, perfect for sandwiches, hamburgers, sliced tomatoes to go with cottage cheese, the ideas go on and on! Like other potato-leaf tomato varieties the yields are not terribly high, pollination can be improved by flicking the blossoms with your fingers or gently shaking the plants.

Planting Instructions for Brandywine Pink Tomato Seeds

Start Brandywine Pink Tomato seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost date. Plant the Tomato seeds ¼” deep in sterile seed starting mix. Germination occurs in 6-14 days in soil 70-90°F. Once true leaves develop, separate Heirloom / Open Pollinated Tomato plants into 3-4″ pots, placing in full light & cooler temps (60-70°F). Set out hardened off Tomato transplants, in full sun, once soil has warmed, 18-30″ apart, in rows 3-4′ apart. Plant tall, spindly Brandywine Pink tomato seedlings deeper, the stems will sprout roots and support and strengthen the plant. To help prevent blossom end rot, put 1 Tbs of lime, ground oyster shells, or crushed eggshells at the bottom of your planting hole. The calcium will help build strong cell walls once your heirloom tomatoes plants start producing fruit. For strong Brandywine Pink tomato plants, add 1 Tbs of aged compost and 1 Tbs of bone meal to the bottom of the hole as well.

I am highly satisfied with my purchase of 3 types of beefsteak tomatoes. I am growing them indoors. The 6 plants (two of each type) are flourishing so far–at 40 days. I could not be happier. Thank you, St. Claire Heirloom Seeds!!!
