Echinacea purpurea, or Purple Coneflower, is a resilient perennial native to the prairies and woodlands of the central and southeastern United States. Long cultivated for both beauty and utility, it has a history of medicinal use dating back to Native American traditions. The plant bears vibrant rosy-pink petals around a prominent orange cone, with blooms up to 5 inches wide. Growing 2–4 feet tall, it attracts bees, butterflies, and seed-loving birds throughout the season. Coneflower tolerates drought, heat, poor soils, and resists deer.
